Nine Police Security Officers (PSOs) will bring various life experience to their new careers after today graduating from the South Australia Police (SAPOL) Academy and joining the push towards ‘safer communities’.
Seven men and two women have ventured from different fields, including dental, automotive, logistics, hospitality, and retail to now play a vital role in protecting South Australian buildings, assets, and people.
Ranging in age from 19-37, some new PSOs have international backgrounds including Greek, South African, Indian, Punjabi, and Vietnamese.
Prior to joining SAPOL, Alexander worked in retail and spent many years playing football.
“I can’t understate how important my experience in the retail sector was in developing conflict resolution and effective communication skills,” he said.
“The teamwork skills that I’ve carried over are essential to getting through the academy. You are always with different people, and you need to be able to work together. It’s a team effort and we all carry each other through.”
The graduate is looking forward to experiencing the diverse role of a Police Security Officer and encouraged anyone interested in applying to investigate the career.
“At some stage down the road, I would love to come back to the academy and complete the Constable Development Program,” Alexander added.
“I would say to anyone unsure about applying as a police officer to maybe have a look at applying as a Police Security Officer first. It’ll give a great introduction to academy life and what you can experience through a career with SAPOL.”
Fellow new Police Security Officer Joshua has made “life-long friends” through his time at the academy.
“We formed a tight-knit team and supported each other through the challenges of the academy,” he said.
“I plan on diving headfirst into my role as a PSO and learning all that there is to know. I’m not sure what the future might hold for me, however, knowing that there are endless career paths I know I will be doing something I enjoy.”
Joshua similarly encouraged others to apply to SAPOL and become part of the inspiring blue family.
“If you are dedicated you will not regret your decision,” he added.
“Starting a career with SAPOL means you will join a supportive and engaging work family.”
Today’s PSO graduates will be posted to Police Security Services Branch (PSSB), in the Protective Security Section.
SAPOL is currently recruiting for Police Security Officers and is keen to hear from people who are committed to the state’s safety and security.
