- Cook Labor Government providing $2 million to enhance local planning frameworks in the State’s North-West region
- 13 projects funded to help regional local governments plan for their community’s future
The Cook Labor Government has announced $2 million in grant funding to benefit local governments in the State’s North-West to ensure contemporary local planning frameworks are in place to support the Government’s ongoing investment in regional housing and sustainable communities.
The Regional North Local Government Assistance Program was established in late 2022 for the Gascoyne, Kimberley, and Pilbara regions.
The grants aim to update local planning frameworks, aligning with the State Government’s regional housing and development goals.
The 13 funding grants will support 12 local governments in the State’s North-West to plan for their future and assist in facilitating future housing and development.
Separate funding has also been provided to the Shire of Carnarvon to prepare a new Coral Bay structure plan, as the existing structure plan is nearing the end of its operational life.
As stated by Acting Planning Minister Don Punch:
“The Cook Government is committed to supporting and fostering partnerships with local governments through grant funding and providing specialist land use planning advice to the sector.
“This program will help to address existing land use planning constraints on housing developments and sustainable planning for the future of our regions.
“These grants demonstrate what great work can be achieved when the different levels of government come together and focus on common goals.”
