Bass Coast Shire Council has allocated $127,000 to 46 community groups, in Round One of the 2020 Community Grants Program.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a presentation ceremony was not held for this Round.
This Round saw grants awarded for a huge range of projects, events and equipment, including dressage and jumping equipment, signage, the Wonthaggi RSL 2020 Centenary, the expansion of the Cape Paterson Nippers program, a children’s book which tells the story of the Amazon shipwreck, training and safety equipment, sporting facility upgrades and more.
Each Round, one major project grant is awarded. In this Round, the grant for $10,000 was awarded to the Bass Valley Community Group, as part of their project to turn an unused playground into a gym for seniors. This is a project the group have been working on for quite a while and have been able to obtain grants from a number of different sources to allow it to come to fruition.
Cr Tessari said the while it was a shame that the presentation evening didn’t go ahead for this Round, it is still really important to acknowledge and thank the people who volunteer their time in groups and committees and who make so many events and programs in Bass Coast possible.
“We are proud to have a grants program to support our volunteers and the take up in the community is amazing,” Cr Tessari said.
“With the funding they receive, these groups are able to provide programs and events, purchase new equipment, or make improvements to their facilities, all to benefit Bass Coast residents and visitors.”
Applications for Round Two of the 2020 Community Grants are now open and will close on Friday, 7 August.
