Orange City Council’s FutureCity plans to upgrade the Lords Place precinct will be boosted by extra street lighting.
With the awarding of a $250,000 grant from the NSW Government (Transport for NSW), thirteen more pole-mounted lights will be installed along the western side of Lords Place between Summer and Kite Streets, extending the popular ‘White-way’ lighting that currently runs along Summer Street.
Orange Deputy Mayor Gerald Power has welcomed the plans for extra street lighting.

“When we’ve heard back from the community and business operators about our Future City plans one of the consistent messages is that people want more street lighting,” Cr Power said.
“I’m delighted we can work with the NSW Government to make this precinct even more attractive.”
The western side of Kite Street already includes most of the block’s after-hours businesses.
The new lighting also creates a well-lit connection to and from the Ophir Car Park.
“Developing the night-time economy is one of the key aims of this upgrade. There’s already a number of successful restaurants and cafes in this block of Lords Place. High quality lighting is a key part of what catches someone’s eye and makes them want to explore that area at night.” Cr Gerald Power said.
When the new water main was installed along the block last year, Council crews also installed an extra electrical conduit behind the tree pits so that extra lighting could be installed in future.
Work to finalise and commission the water main upgrade is continuing. The next stages of work for Lords Place in the coming months will include the installation of dining decks, seating, shade structures, bollards and pot plants as well as line marking and pavement painting.
The council has also re-opened a site office at 180 Lords Place.
