Grants approved to support community

Community grants program

Campaspe Shire Council has approved a total of $44,060 to 28 grant applicants through a range of grant programs to support community groups and local businesses.

Mayor Rob Amos said the grant programs support activities and events to be delivered by community groups and clubs right across our shire, as well as businesses in their start up or development.

“It’s great to see the breadth and depth of what is planned and for Council to support the community in making their great ideas and locally identified initiatives a reality.

“People working together in a voluntary capacity is what makes Campaspe the friendly, vibrant and resilient community that it is.”

Details of the grant programs, amounts and recipients are:

Eight applications totalling $14,380 through the Community Equipment Grants, a program open year round to support community groups purchase equipment for their programs and activities:

  • $2,000 to Echuca Country Music Club Inc to purchase power leads, lighting and promotional banners
  • $1,400 to Girgarre Community Cottage Inc to support the purchase of kitchen appliances for the Community Meals Program
  • $1,480 to Rochester Basketball Association Inc to assist with the purchase of basketballs for training and game day for the representative season
  • $1,500 to Stanhope & District Men’s Shed Inc to assist with the purchase of two welding tables
  • $2,000 to Moama Echuca Border Raiders Soccer Association Inc to purchase junior competition soccer balls for the Under 7 to Under 11 competition and training programs
  • $2,000 to Rushworth Golf Club Inc to assist with the purchase of a replacement ride on mower
  • $2,000 to Nanneella Playgroup to purchase outdoor equipment to expand playgroup activities
  • $2,000 to Rushworth Public Cemetery to assist with the purchase of a double door fireproof document safe

Thirteen grants totalling $11,600 through the Seniors Program Grants, a program supporting the health, wellbeing and social connectedness of older citizens, as follows:

  • $1,000 to Lockington Senior Citizens Club Inc to support a free seniors community Christmas event
  • $1,000 to Rushworth Community House to provide eight free sessions of yoga and strength and balance classes
  • $1,000 to Echuca Moama Centennial Probus Club to support a Come and Try Expo showcasing the broad range of activities available by joining Probus
  • $700 to Rochester Community House to provide two free social media / email scam sessions for seniors
  • $1,000 to Girgarre Community Group to provide a free day bus trip for seniors of Stanhope and Girgarre to Nagambie
  • $1,000 to Tongala Lions Club to produce a series of drawings and videos to support seniors in a self paced, guided learning program, to help develop skills
  • $1,000 to Campaspe LGBTIQ+ to support seniors post Covid to venture back out with a picnic and bush walk in Rushworth, with a local guide, followed by yoga and meditation
  • $1,000 to Echuca Dance Group for a Seniors Week event open to all the senior community
  • $800 to Kyvalley Swimming Club to provide a free senior’s concert at the Kyvalley Hall
  • $1,000 to Rochester Bowls Club to provide a free community event to encourage new members
  • $600 to Toolleen Senior Luncheon Group to provide a free senior community Christmas lunch
  • $1,000 to Echuca Moama Uniting Church to provide seed funding for a support group for grandparents who care for grandchildren
  • $500 to Tongala Senior Citizens Club to support activities for a new membership drive

Three grants totalling $9,500 through the Community Event Sponsorship grants, a program offering financial support to not-for-project community groups to hold events, as follows:

  • $5,000 to Moama Water Sport Club Ltd to assist with hosting the Beehag 100 Water Ski Race as well as in-kind support to the value of $360
  • $750 to Wyuna Community Memorial Hall Inc to assist with hosting the Wyuna Community Christmas event
  • $3,750 to Girgarre Development Group Inc to assist with hosting the Girgarre Moosic Muster as well as in-kind support to the value of $660

Three grants totalling $8,080 through the Business Assistance Grants, a program supporting local businesses to diversify and expand, as well as attract new businesses to the municipality, as follows:

  • $1,580 to Delilah & P., Echuca to assist with a Easter / Valentines collection for January 2023
  • $1,500 to The Kyabram Collective to assist with social media marketing
  • $5,000 to Echuca Hair Studio to assist with shop renovations

This grant program will be suspended, to be reviewed as part of the Economic Development Strategy redevelopment.

Council also approved one Responsive Grant. This $500 grant was approved for Kyabram Yarn Bombers towards the purchase of wool and materials for Kyabram Christmas yarn bombing displays.
