Grants Equip Sporting Clubs With Bright Future

VIC Premier

New uniforms, equipment and training opportunities are in play for more than 1,000 Victorian grassroots sport and recreation clubs, backed by new funding from the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence today announced the latest recipients sharing in more than $1.5 million from the Labor Government’s Sporting Club Grants Program.

Since 2014, the Program has injected more than $13.8 million into clubs across Victoria.

One of the grant recipients is Wantirna South Football Club, which is receiving $1,000 to purchase new uniforms and equipment for its first women’s team.

The Program provides up to $1,000 for uniforms and participation equipment, up to $5,000 for training coaches, officials and volunteers, and up to $5,000 to improve club operational effectiveness.

These initiatives are part of the Labor Government’s commitment to make community sport and recreation more inclusive and accessible, stimulate local economies, build sustainable sport and recreation volunteer opportunities and increase participation.

As stated by Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence

“Community sport is the lifeblood of Victorian communities. That’s why we’re backing more clubs with help to purchase uniforms and equipment and investing in their future through training and development.”

“Every parent wants to see their kids active and engaged – local sporting clubs are the heart of so many communities.”

As stated by Member for Bayswater Jackson Taylor

This support is a great boost for local clubs, and it means more community members can join in the fun.”

As stated by Wantirna South Football Club Operations Manager Kevin Grondelle

“One of the hurdles in establishing a new team is the costs – attracting players to the club becomes easier when funding is in place for equipment and uniforms.”

“Receiving this grant will support our club to establish the women’s team and make the costs of involvement more manageable for the players.”
