Grants Now Open To Support Healthier Communities

Tasmanian Government

The Tasmanian Government is continuing to deliver a healthier Tasmania with more than $1.5 million on offer for community health initiatives under the latest round of Healthy Tasmania Grants.

Applications for the latest Healthy Focus and Step Forward grant programs are now open, with local government and community organisations encouraged to apply.

Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Guy Barnett, said the grants will support our ongoing effort to build healthier Tasmanian communities.

“These community-led grants are an important part of the Healthy Tasmania Five Year Strategic Plan, enabling community connections to strengthen and help people live happy, healthy lives,” Minister Barnett said.

“The grants are for activities that keep people healthy, putting significant focus on the huge importance of preventative health.

“Projects can include work towards improving healthy eating and physical activity, reducing alcohol harm, supporting health literacy or priority populations, improving mental health and wellbeing, or encouraging smoke-free communities in Tasmania.

“An element I am distinctly proud of are the Healthy Tasmania’s focus areas, which aim to reduce the barriers people may experience in their pursuit of a healthier, fitter lifestyle.

“An important component of building a better health system under our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future – by focussing on preventative health we can tackle issues as they emerge and future-proof the health of Tasmanians.”

Healthy Focus grant applicants can seek funding from $20,000 to $100,000 for projects up to two years. Applications close on 30 September 2024.

Step Forward grants provide up to $5,000 for small projects that support health and wellbeing.

Projects may include training for organisations to upskill staff, designing or printing posters for a health promotion campaign, or for equipment to run a community group or activity.

Applications for Step Forward grants close on 23 September 2024.
