Grants strengthen economic opportunities for Noongar people

  • $360,000 to boost Noongar Regional Corporations’ business and leadership development
  • Grants part of Cook Government’s economic and social investment in a shared future for Western Australia

The Cook Government is empowering Noongar people to build economic growth and employment opportunities with $360,000 funding shared amongst six Noongar Regional Corporations.

The Economic Foundation Grants will assist the Noongar Regional Corporations in the South West Native Title Settlement to build economic and leadership capability and capacity.

Grants are available to the Corporations for strategic planning, feasibility studies, independent technical advice and professional services, as well as corporate governance and business leadership training.

The investment will enable the six Noongar Regional Corporations to build on the strengths of their community and culture, and harness available economic opportunities.

The initiative is part of the Cook Government’s commitment to a shared future and working in partnership with Noongar people to capture economic opportunities that generate enduring employment, social and environmental benefits.

As stated by Regional Development Minister Don Punch:

“These grants will assist the Noongar Regional Corporations to develop knowledge, skills and self-determination through economic planning and development.

“This great initiative will lay sound foundations to pursue business opportunities and employment pathways that build a strong future for Noongar people.”

As stated by Aboriginal Affairs Minister Dr Tony Buti:

“As a Government we are committed to supporting economic prosperity for Aboriginal communities.

“These grants will help to do this by strengthening businesses and providing employment opportunities for Aboriginal people.”
