New mattresses for Lodge guests
As a community-funded organisation, we rely on donations and support from West Australians to work towards a cancer free future. We have recently received several generous grants, all of which will to go towards covering the critical, everyday operating costs for our wide range of cancer support services.
Comfort for Lodge guests
Our two Accommodation Lodges are designed to be safe, accessible, and supportive spaces for regional cancer patients and their carers accessing treatment in Perth. Last financial year alone, we provided 45,928 bed nights at our Lodges. Often one of the most direct comforts we can offer in a difficult situation is a bed to sleep in at the end of a long and anxious day
We approached both the Channel 7 Charitable Trust and the Stan Perron Charitable Foundation, requesting support to help us revitalise these beds for our Lodge guests.
The Channel 7 Telethon trust generously granted $8,800 towards purchasing children’s bed mattresses for the family suites at Crawford Lodge and Stan Perron Charitable Foundation granted an incredible $55,686 towards purchasing new bed mattresses for all the other beds at both Lodges.
Thanks to these grants, our Lodges can continue to be a comfortable and supportive home-away-from-home for cancer patients and their families.
New wigs for cancer patients
Cancer Council WA recognises the psychosocial impacts and difficulties that cancer patients may face when experiencing hair loss as a side-effect of their treatment.
In recognition of this impact, The Rotary Club of Mandurah Districts Inc, granted $1,000 to be put towards purchasing new wigs. Over the last financial year alone, our WA-wide Wig Service loaned out 1997 wigs, turbans, hats, and scarves to 795 cancer patients. This generous contribution will ensure that we always have wigs readily available in a diverse range of styles and colours for Peel region residents who are living with and after a cancer diagnosis.
Counselling and Financial assistance
Our Financial Hardship Assistance program and Counselling service play critical roles in addressing the financial and psychological pressures of a cancer diagnosis.
During the last financial year, we provided 1377 counselling sessions free-of-charge to 775 people affected by cancer. On average we also receive 926 requests for financial assistance every year. Thanks to the Australian Business Enterprise Centre, our Counselling and Financial Hardship Programs have recently received an amazing $98,100 grant to help cover the costs of these essential services. All funds will to go towards paying for counselling sessions, purchasing food and fuel vouchers, and also covering utility bills for people struggling with financial difficulties in addition to a cancer diagnosis.
