Grants to support regional traineeships

  • Regional Traineeship Program assisting communities to employ and upskill local workers, supported by the Cook Government
  • Grants of up to $38,000 available now to support vocational education in the regions

The latest round of the Cook Government’s Regional Traineeship Program grants has opened, with $2 million to support local jobs and capacity in regional communities across Western Australia.

Grants of up to $38,000 are available to WA Community Resource Centre (CRC) Network members and select regional Local Government Authorities (LGA) to assist with the cost of employing a trainee.

The one-off payment will support vocational training to develop a trainee’s skills and knowledge to help meet the needs of local businesses and industry.

In the past five years, 225 grant recipients and their communities have benefitted from the program, with trainee placements from Broome to Hopetoun.

The 2023-24 grant round closes at noon Monday, 9 October 2023.

As stated by Regional Development Minister Don Punch:

“This fantastic program enables people to establish a career in their region, helping transform people’s lives and communities.

“In the last funding round, 52 successful grant recipients employed trainees who studied a range of courses, including aged care, community services and information technology.

“I encourage CRCs and eligible LGAs to collaborate with regional businesses to see how the Regional Traineeship Program grants can build capacity and opportunities in their community.”
