Lyndoch Oval is set to become a premier Barossa sporting venue with a $660,000 investment in lighting, oval and cricket infrastructure as part of The Barossa Council’s Big Project.
The State Government has contributed $265,000 towards the project, which will see the installation of LED lighting, oval upgrade and four new cricket nets.
Mayor Bim Lange said the project will support participation in grassroots competition as well as attract high quality sporting events and fixtures to the region.
“Local cricket, rugby, athletics, football and netball are the big winners here,” Mayor Lange said.
“These upgrades are a fabulous starting point for Barossa District Football and Netball Club to prepare to relocate from Williamstown to Lyndoch to access contemporary playing, training and clubroom facilities in an inclusive sporting environment,” he said.
“Rugby, cricket and athletics are also set to benefit from oval upgrades that accommodate a turf wicket and 400 metre running track.”
The project also includes capacity to upgrade lighting to 300 lux in the future.
Mayor Lange said the Grassroots Round 3 funding highlights Council’s strong partnership with SACA, SANFL and Netball SA to deliver high quality infrastructure for local communities.
“Back in 2016 we laid the foundation to establish the Barossa as a premier regional sports tourism event destination, and we are thrilled to see this vision becoming a reality at locations across the Barossa region,” he said.
