The McGowan Government will invest almost $370,000 towards two waste management projects in the Great Southern to support the communities of Ravensthorpe and Katanning.
Over the past 10 years, the State Government has contributed more than $5 million to the Regional and Strategic Waste Management Approach Project across the shires of Jerramungup, Ravensthorpe, Gnowangerup, Katanning and Kent.
The project has significantly improved the performance and compliance of waste management infrastructure throughout the shires, contributing to the safe and efficient functioning of the local communities.
The McGowan Government has now approved funding for two additional sub-projects which will commence this year.
A weighbridge will be installed at Ravensthorpe to enable accurate, timely measurement and collection of data on the quantities and types of waste entering the landfill.
A new waste equipment shed in Katanning will be built to house high-value waste management assets such as machinery and equipment.
As stated by Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:
“The Regional and Strategic Waste Management Approach Project is a positive step in ensuring there are high-grade waste management assets that can continue to service these communities for decades to come.
“The shires actively pursued these additional works, with the weighbridge enabling the accurate, timely measurement and collection of data on the quantities and types of waste, which is important for responsible land use management.
“The new Katanning shed is also a good move to protect valuable resources and reduce net costs.”
