Greater Shepparton City Council is proud to host the 2023 BMX Racing ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Championships in partnership with AusCycling.
From Monday 30 October to Sunday 5 November 2023, the best riders from all over Australia will meet at the Shepparton BMX Track.
The championships are expected to bring more than 2,100 competitors, support crew, families and visitors for the weeklong event. In 2019, the last time the event was held in Shepparton, approximately $6.4 million was injected into the local economy, making it the perfect occasion to activate the region and attract national exposure.
Victorian Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events, The Hon Steve Dimopoulos MP said it’s fantastic for Shepparton and the surrounding region to welcome the pinnacle event on the BMX Racing calendar in Australia.
“The Championships add another fantastic sporting event to Victoria’s jam-packed calendar, welcoming thousands of visitors from across Australia to the region, boosting local businesses across Greater Shepparton.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, welcomed the championships saying these type of events bring significant economic benefits and are a great opportunity to showcase the top sporting facilities located in our region.
“Greater Shepparton City Council is expecting an action packed week. We are looking forward to welcoming participants, staff and spectators, coming from across the country to compete at the 2023 BMX Racing ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Championships,” he said.
“This is a great opportunity to activate our local economy and showcase our world class BMX track. Investing in our infrastructure enables us to bring the very best events to the region, positioning Greater Shepparton as the leading sporting and events capital of regional Australia.”
AusCycling Chief Executive Officer Marne Fechner was thrilled by the opportunity for the Championships to take place in Greater Shepparton.
“Shepparton is quickly developing a reputation as a national cycling destination, having recently hosted the 2023 AusCycling Junior and Masters Road ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Championships, and the Shepparton BMX track is one of the best venues of its type in Australia, having hosted UCI World Cup events in 2020,” Fechner said.
“I have no doubt the thousands of riders and spectators who turn up for Australia’s premier BMX competition will have a fantastic time in the region, and with many of Australia’s best professional and amateur riders competing, the on-track action should be nothing short of spectacular.”
