Green light on Glenorchy Ambulance Station

Michael Ferguson, Deputy Premier

The construction of a new state-of-the-art ambulance superstation in Glenorchy is about to begin with construction company Hansen Yuncken awarded the $12.66 million contract.

The new station will house the increasing paramedic workforce and have the capacity to house up to 18 vehicles by 2035 to meet the anticipated future needs of Tasmanians in the area.

The contemporary fit-out will provide dedicated staff meeting rooms, facilities, a larger garage and improved access for Ambulance Tasmania staff and visitors.

Acting Minister for Health, Michael Ferguson, said the new Station was one of eight new ambulance stations that the Rockliff Liberal Government is delivering as it continues to boost ambulance services and resources across the State.

“We are building the infrastructure needed to support our record investments in ambulance and paramedic services, so that more Tasmanians can get the care they need, sooner,” Minister Ferguson said.

“The new contemporary station will further support the delivery of life-saving services to Hobart’s northern suburbs and beyond for decades to come.”

Construction on the Glenorchy Ambulance Station is set to begin in the next two weeks and is expected to be completed by August 2024.

In addition to superstations being built in Glenorchy and Burnie, the Tasmanian Government is also delivering six new rural ambulance stations around Tasmania.

The new Bridgewater Ambulance Station opened earlier this year, with new stations also under construction at Beaconsfield and Queenstown, while planning continues for Longford, Oatlands and Bicheno.
