PERTH, 29 August 2023: Greenpeace Australia Pacific has applauded today’s announcement of a $3 billion boost of Western Australia’s clean energy transition, saying that it shows the state’s future is in renewables, not gas.
The Albanese and Cook Governments announced the landmark deal today, which will include funding for priority upgrades to Western Australia’s electricity grids to prepare the state for the renewable energy boom.
Jess Panegyres, Head of Clean Energy Transition at Greenpeace Australia Pacific, said the announcement paves the way for WA to become a renewable energy superpower.
“Today’s announcement shows that Western Australia’s future lies in clean energy, brimming with opportunities and good, clean jobs right across the state. It’s a great indication of the direction of travel for both our State and Federal Governments, and it’s fantastic to see cooperation to ensure our state has the funding and support it needs to capitalise on the renewables boom,” she said.
“Greenpeace has been calling for funding to secure WA’s clean energy future, and applauds this as an important step forward for our state.”
