Greenpeace response to Toyota ‘Dieselgate’ class action

Greenpeace

In response to media reports that Toyota Motor Corporation Australia is facing another class action lawsuit about its diesel engines, for the installation of “diesel defeat devices”, Greenpeace Australia Pacific senior campaigner Lindsay Soutar says:

If these allegations are substantiated, this would be another of many examples of companies in the Toyota group engaging in dodgy practices when it comes to climate pollution.

Toyota is Australia’s largest and most trusted car maker, so it’s incredibly disappointing that Toyota Motor Corporation has been accused of installing diesel defeat devices, which give different results in an emissions testing environment than under real world conditions where they produce dramatically more emissions.

If the allegations are made out, the case is another alarm bell to Toyota that it needs to clean up its act, and get in the fast lane with electric vehicles.
