The Greens back Metro bus mechanics who are planning to walk off the job today following concerns about pay rates, staff shortages and underfunding at the state-owned company.
“Our Metro bus mechanics have suffered a death by a thousand cuts under the Liberal government, which has under-appreciated and under-resourced workers in this critical sector for the past decade.
“A failure to fill worker vacancies and address staff-turnover has put Metro bus mechanics under unacceptable pressure.
“Metro provides an essential service for Tasmanian communities, and it’s time those workers are given the pay and conditions they deserve to keep Tasmania moving.
“The Greens wholeheartedly support Metro bus mechanics in their fight for better pay rates and conditions – and will always stand in solidarity with workers seeking to negotiate in good faith to deliver better services for Tasmania.”
