The UN established the International Day of Forests on the 21st day of March 2013 to raise awareness of the importance of all types of forests, for the benefit of current and future generations – but here in lutruwita/Tasmania only the Greens can be trusted to take this fight for our forests to parliament.
“lutruwita/Tasmania’s native forests are globally recognised for their unique species and conservation values, as well as being some of the most carbon dense forests on the planet.
“Already people come from around the world to see lutruwita/Tasmania’s magnificent forests as it’s increasingly understood our natural environment is our tourism industry’s greatest and most valuable asset.
“The Greens want to see more investment in big tree tourism that would celebrate our forest giants, and showcase their majesty to visitors.
“Our forests are home to incredible bird species, like the swift parrot and Tasmanian masked owl – we know people travel across the globe to birdwatch, and we should be encouraging them to Tassie and embracing what makes our island globally unique.
“While Liberal and Labor politicians shamelessly back Tasmania’s destructive climate-destroying native forestry logging industry, the Greens know the real value of our forests, which are worth more standing.
“The Greens will never stop fighting for our magnificent forests, and their potential in climate mitigation and in putting Tasmania’s nature tourism back on the international stage.”
