On 27 May 2019 Council received a report from the Recruitment and Selection Committee regarding the position of General Manager. The Committee was tasked with overseeing a merit based recruitment process and recommending a preferred candidate to the full Council for final decision.
Following an extensive recruitment process, the Committee* unanimously recommended Greg Doyle as the preferred candidate for the position of General Manager. This recommendation was unanimously endorsed by the full Council on 27 May 2019.
Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said Greg Doyle was a strong candidate and the most suitable candidate to lead Wollongong City Council at this time.
“Greg has strong experience in local government having worked in leadership roles in the areas of community services and infrastructure. He understands the key role local government plays in building strong communities,” Cr Bradbery said.
Mr Doyle previously held the position of Director of Corporate & Community Services at Wollongong City Council and since 2016 has been the Director of Infrastructure and Works.
“Greg is well regarded as a dynamic individual with a strong focus on business improvement and will bring experience and energy to the position of General Manager at Wollongong City Council,” Cr Bradbery said.
“He has excellent people skills and a demonstrated ability to work skillfully across all levels of local government and engage with the wider community.”
Mr Doyle said said he was honoured to be given the opportunity to lead Wollongong Council.
“This is an exciting time for Wollongong. Wollongong is a key regional city. We have a sound financial base and the Council is dedicated to delivering key infrastructure for the community. The current staff are committed to Wollongong and I look forward to working with them to continue to support the needs of our community,” Mr Doyle said.
Mr Doyle will take up the position effective 1 June 2019.
