Attracting private investment opportunities to the Territory is one way to create ongoing local jobs for Territorians.
The $6.3 million Gunn Point Emerging Agribusiness Precinct has taken a step forward with the lodgement of important regulatory approval requirements
The Precinct covers 260 hectares of land on Gunn Point Peninsula, and is being developed for the purpose of crop trialling and innovative farming and irrigation techniques.
The project explores the commercial viability of emerging agricultural opportunities that could be rolled out on a broader scale in the Territory.
The greater Gunn Point Peninsula has been earmarked for conservation, recreation, tourism and primary industries such as agriculture, horticulture and aquaculture.
Extensive studies have been conducted to identify and map soil and land capability, water availability, vegetation and biodiversity assets for Gunn Point, to identify land most suitable for development under the $10 million Mapping the Future Program.
It’s anticipated that infrastructure works will include a gravel access road and intersection, boundary clearing, perimeter fencing and water infrastructure such as, bores, tanks and pumping systems.
An Expression of Interest seeking proponents to utilise the Precinct is anticipated for late 2023, and will be coordinated by the NT Government’s Agribusiness Development team, NT Land Corporation and NT Farmers Association.
