Cr El Mouallem has lived and worked in Bayside for over 21 years and has a strong commitment to our community and long held passion for the enhancement of Bayside’s open space and liveability.
A Project Manager with two post-graduate degrees and 20 years’ experience in delivering built environment projects, Cr El Mouallem is a strong advocate for protecting Bayside from inappropriate development and traffic congestion.
Married to Sally, Cr El Mouallem has two teenage children.
Cr El Mouallem who represents Dendy Ward said that his time as a panellist for the Bayside 2050 Community Vision project before being elected as a Councillor, has provided a unique insight into community concerns.
“I’m honoured to have the opportunity to serve as Mayor of our wonderful municipality,” Cr El Mouallem said.
“Bayside is a kind and connected community and I’m dedicated to delivering community-focused projects that balance the intergenerational impacts of land and asset use so future generations can enjoy what we all love in Bayside.”
Cr El Mouallem was elected to Bayside City Council in November 2020 and served as Deputy Mayor in 2021-22.
“I’m looking forward to leading this Council through the delivery of some fantastic initiatives and am committed to working with my fellow Councillors to address any challenges that come our way.”
Cr El Mouallem acknowledged the contribution of outgoing Mayor, Cr Alex del Porto in leading Council over the past year.
“Cr del Porto had an exceptional term as Mayor and I commend him for his great work,” Cr El Mouallem said.
“I’m looking forward to working alongside all my fellow Councillors building a collegial Council to continue making Bayside better.”
Deputy Mayor
At the same meeting, Cr Jo Samuel-King MBBS was elected Deputy Mayor.
Councillor Jo Samuel-King MBBS is a local GP with a passion for people and the environment who believes Bayside is blessed with wonderful parks, beaches and reserves. Cr Samuel-King has been involved in Bayside City Council through her work with the Yalukit Willam (formerly Elsternwick Park) Nature Reserve to preserve this much-loved area.
As a Councillor, Cr Samuel-King intends to work with local groups to protect and preserve the invaluable natural and cultural heritage of these spaces for the enjoyment and amenity of all residents.
