Hanson Velodrome officially open

On Saturday 9 November we officially opened the new and improved Hanson Reserve and Velodrome.

This project includes a brand new professional grade cycling velodrome, a grassed multi-use area in the centre of the track, floodlighting, a playground, picnic area, fitness stations, a loop path, landscaping and a new car park.

It was built by the City of PAE for a total cost of $3.29 million, including grant funding of $780k from SA DPTI Planning and Development Fund, $250k from SA Office of Recreation Sport and Racing, and $250k from Sport Australia for a fitness loop path. Thanks also to the Australian Institute of Sport for their support.

We welcomed cyclists from across metro Adelaide, Whyella, Mount Gambier and as far away as Rockhampton, with over 200 riders registered to compete in events and try out the new track. Thanks to Cycling SA, Kilkenny Cycling Club, and Port Adelaide Cycling Club for pulling out all the stop and making our return to Hanson Velodrome a huge success!
