Harmony week – Everyone belongs

You are invited to celebrate our community’s diversity with a free Harmony Day event on Sunday, March 20 at Willow Park.

Harmony Day and Holi is an event featuring a festival of colours – come along between 1pm and 4pm to join others in throwing coloured powder into the air.

Albury-Wodonga Ethnic Communities Council (AWECC) is hosting the family-friendly event, which is supported by Wodonga Council, and will include dancing and music by DJ BaaZ.

What is Harmony Week and Harmony Day?

Harmony Week, from March 21 to 27, is a national celebration of our cultural diversity – a time of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home.

The theme for the week is: ‘everyone belongs’.

The week aims to engage people to participate in their community, respect cultural and religious diversity and foster a sense of belonging for everyone.

The event coincides with the on March 21.

AWECC CEO Richard Ogetii said our diversity makes Albury-Wodonga a great place to live.

“We have different backgrounds, different experiences and different cultures. Yet we are one community,” he said.

From Germany, Bhutan, India, the Philippines, Chinese, Malaysia, Pacific Islands, Ethiopia, Sudan, South Sudan, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Botswana, Togo, Nigeria, South Africa, Latvia, Venezuela, Columbia, Netherlands, Greece, Russia, Croatia and Ireland – these are some of the many nationalities living on the Border.

This week is a great opportunity to recognise that we are at our best when we are inclusive, respect each other and celebrate the fact that everyone can belong in our great city.
