Have your say on proposed planning controls for future quarries

Feedback is being sought on proposed planning controls aimed at protecting important quarry resources near Lang Lang and Trafalgar in the state’s south-east, and an existing stone quarry near Oaklands Junction in Melbourne’s north.

(SERAs) help secure access to the raw materials needed to build new homes and infrastructure across the state, while protecting local communities, through new planning controls in the Baw Baw, Cardinia and Hume municipalities.

SERAs identify and safeguard land with the potential to supply the rock, sand, stone, clay and gravel Victoria needs to build infrastructure while considering environmental and cultural heritage values and existing land uses.

The proposed changes aim to help local communities by making sure quarries can be located close to where raw materials will be needed, while ensuring future housing developments are not located too close to quarries.

Feedback on plans to introduce SERAs can be lodged at .
