Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery has today officially opened Hawker Park Primary School’s landmark new early intervention centre – the ‘Hawker Hub’.
The $1.5 million centre in Warwick will provide essential services for children from birth to eight years old, supporting them to have the best possible start to education.
The ‘Hawker Hub’ will be an important community asset for Hawker Park Primary School families and students, as well as the wider community.
Designed by architecture firm Hodge Collard Preston, the space will be used by playgroups, parent groups, social workers, psychologists, speech therapists, occupational therapists and other professionals, making it possible for parents to access these services and relevant information for their children in one central place.
It will also provide a base for the Parents and Citizens’ Association and School Board, and serve as a venue for parent workshops, such as the Positive Parenting Program.
The recently completed project is part of the McGowan Government’s $5.5 billion WA Recovery Plan to drive economic and social recovery across the State.
As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:
“Young children and families in the local community will benefit from this landmark $1.5 million centre, which is designed to help set children up for successful schooling and lives.
“Having services available on the Hawker Park Primary School site will mean that children and families are familiar with the school and its environment from an early age and can see the services and support in a positive light, ultimately supporting their smooth transition from pre-school to school.
“I have no doubt that the ‘Hawker Hub’ will become an important meeting place for the local community and bring many parents and families together, with the common goal of giving their children the best start at life.”
As stated by Kingsley MLA Jessica Stojkovski:
“It’s fantastic to have this brand new and impressive early intervention centre in our community to support families with essential services.
“The Hawker Hub provides the opportunity to bring pre-school aged children and their families into the school community and ease the transition to school.
“The importance of co-locating these services on school sites cannot be overstated – I know parents who use the services will appreciate that this was prioritised in the centre’s design.”
