The Mayor of Hawkesbury, Councillor Patrick Conolly has commended the mammoth effort put in by the NSW State Emergency Services and all the emergency services crews, community volunteers, charity and food services during the flood and now in the flood recovery.

“We need to acknowledge the dedicated work of our emergency services crews. I would like to thank all staff and volunteers for the incredible work they continue to do, day in and day out, for our community. It’s so heart warming to see friends helping friends, neighbours helping neighbours, and the strong connection we all have to each other in the Hawkesbury,” Mayor Conolly said.

“We have had extensive flood damage in the Hawkesbury and Council staff are assessing and repairing damaged roads and parks, cleaning up sewage, cleaning out flood damaged buildings, and staying in touch with our community. We thank you for your understanding and for appreciating the fact that although we have a long recovery ahead of us, we are now on the way to recovery together.

“Hundreds of people have already come along to our Recovery Centre at South Windsor and we have now opened another Recovery Centre at Wisemans Ferry which is helping our community,” he said.

“The dedicated community recovery centres provide face-to-face support for our residents who have been affected by this natural disaster.

“Come in and have a chat with our friendly volunteers so that you can get help from a range of services offered by Service NSW and many other agencies all in one location. They can help with registering for emergency accommodation, replacing damaged documents, booking flood waste collections, accessing mental health services and more.

“800 people have already registered for flood waste pick-ups from the kerbside and I know there will be many more needing assistance. Please understand that you are not alone, help is at hand, we are reaching out to you in many ways, so reach back to us so we can help.

“With thousands of Hawkesbury residents needing waste disposal after the floods, we are getting waste contractors out as quickly possible,” Mayor Conolly said.
