NSW ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Parks and Wildlife Service will conduct a hazard reduction burn in Wollemi ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Park on Friday 21 April, weather permitting.
³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) Wollemi-Yengo Area Manager Phil Bryant said the planned burn is located in the Baerami Creek area and would treat approximately 3,600 hectares.
‘The burn may extend into Saturday, and an adjacent second hazard reduction may be implemented on Sunday or Monday, weather permitting,’ Mr Bryant said.
Mr Bryant said the hazard reduction operation was taking advantage of favourable forecast weather to reduce fuel loads in the area.
NPWS crews will be assisted by the NSW Rural Fire Service.
The Wilpen North hazard reduction area is 19 km southwest of Sandy Hollow, adjacent to Baerami Creek Road.
This small section of Wollemi ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Park will be closed during the burning operation. Visitors should check NPWS for up-to-date information.
Smoke may be visible in the Merriwa, Baerami Valley, Widden Valley and out toward Goulburn River ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Park.
Anyone vulnerable to smoke is encouraged to remain indoors and keep doors and windows closed to reduce any possible exposure.
