The NSW ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting a hazard reduction burn in the Kings Plain ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Park near Glen Innes starting Friday 4 August afternoon and continuing over the weekend.
The 2,600 hectare burn will involve aerial incendiaries and a helicopter will be operating in the vicinity of the burn area.
The burn will reduce naturally accumulated fuel loads to protect nearby private properties by reducing the intensity of future bushfires.
Kings Plain ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Park will be closed for the duration of the burn, expected to take the weekend to complete.
Smoke may be visible from Nullamanna, Wellingrove and Kings Plains Road and may settle in the broader communities of Emmaville, Inverell and Glen Innes.
People vulnerable to smoke are encouraged to stay indoors and keep doors and windows closed to reduce exposure.
Motorists are reminded to exercise caution and drive to conditions.
Hazard reduction burns are essential to reduce bushfire fuel loads to help protect parks, neighbours and communities from future bushfires.
This burn is one of many hazard reduction operations undertaken by NPWS each year, many with assistance from the Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue NSW.
All burns around the state are coordinated with the NSW Rural Fire Service to ensure the impact on the community is assessed at a regional level.
