Manisha’s poster was about understanding the cell-specific contribution of TRAIL to angiogenesis, where she investigated at which stage TRAIL is important for blood vessel formation. Manisha was able to identify that TRAIL coming from endothelial cells is important for the formation of endothelial cell tubules and that TRAIL has a role in endothelial cell and pericyte crosstalk during angiogenesis for vessel stabilisation.
The award was presented by Professor Georges Grau, President of ANZMS, and is also a former lecturer to Manisha.
“I feel very honoured to receive the award from someone who I regarded very highly during my university days” said Manisha. ”I was ecstatic and immensely proud to get this award mostly because I’ve always wished to express my enthusiasm about science through my presentations, so much so that I can get the audience excited too and receiving this award shows that I have achieved it”
The Australia/New Zealand Microcirulation Society (ANZMS) was organized as a joint scientific meeting of the Australian Vascular Biology Society (AVBS), and the Asia/Australia Vascular Biology Meeting (AAVBM). The event was co-chaired by a national organising committee including HRI researchers Simone Schoenwaelder and Sian Cartland, and involved multiple presentations from a diverse range of HRI specialists. More than 130 researchers from all over the world including NZ, Canada, US, Korea, Singapore, Japan and China attended this Joint Meeting of Vascular Biology.
“I thoroughly enjoyed the conference” explained Manisha, ”which had a wide variety work presented in the vascular biology theme. Every speaker had a new and stimulating discovery to share and it was exhilarating to be an audience for these great talks.”
