Heatwave warning issued for Lake Macquarie and Hunter Region

Lake Macquarie City Council

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has issued a heatwave warning for Lake Macquarie, the Hunter region, and other parts of New South Wales. From November 26 to 29, temperatures are expected to soar into the low to high thirties, prompting concerns for public health and safety.

Severe heatwave conditions are anticipated, with relief expected later in the week for parts of eastern NSW. The BOM has provided crucial advice to help residents cope with the extreme heat:

  • Vulnerable groups: Severe heatwaves can pose significant risks, particularly for older people, babies, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, individuals with medical conditions, and those who are unwell.
  • Stay cool: Seek out cool environments such as your home, libraries, community centres, or shopping centres.
  • ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ preparation: Close windows and draw blinds, curtains, or awnings early in the day to keep the heat out.
  • Cooling methods: Use fans or air-conditioners if available to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature.

Residents are urged to stay informed by following the latest updates on the BOM’s website.

Stay safe and take necessary precautions during this heatwave period.
