Join Townsville City Council, Coastal Dry Tropics Landcare, Tangaroa Blue and Creekwatch at Sherriff Park this Clean Up Australia Day.
The volunteer opportunity will run from 8am to 10am on Sunday 6 March 2022 at Mundingburra and will be a chance for locals to enhance one of Townsville’s most-loved parks.
Community Health, Safety and Environmental Sustainability Committee chairperson Maurie Soars said it was heartening to see the turnout to Clean Up Australia Day in Townsville each year.
“Every Clean Up Australia Day, we get a huge turnout of volunteers of all ages who want to do their part to keep Townsville pristine,” Cr Soars said.
“It’s great to see so many people get behind the day and recognise that it’s everyone’s responsibility to keep our natural environment free of litter.
“Events like Clean Up Australia Day are a chance for all of us to go above and beyond to tackle litter in our parks and across our city.”
Cr Soars said taking part in Clean Up Australia Day was simple.
“If you want to do your part this Clean Up Australia Day, head down to Sherriff Park at Mundingburra at 8am on Sunday 6 March with a hat, long sleeves and sunscreen on,” he said.
“We’ll have a barbecue for volunteers and a native tree giveaway on a first come first serve basis.
“Creekwatch, Tangaroa Blue and Coastal Dry Tropics Landcare will have activities and information available so you can learn more about our natural environment and how to keep it in great shape.”
