Help manage IBD before and during pregnancy

Interactive program helps you address misconceptions about IBD pregnancy risks.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) affects 800,000 women in the U.S. — many during their peak years of reproduction and family planning. Unfortunately, due to misinformation and related fears, many women with IBD either choose to forgo children or try to have children by stopping their IBD therapy, which results in increased risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes.

The truth is that women successfully treating their IBD have no difference in their ability to conceive than the general population’s age cohort. The key is controlling the disease.

Caring for women of childbearing age with IBD requires complex decisions and coordination among multiple medical specialities. But it is possible. You too can learn how to give your patients the help they need to manage their IBD before and during pregnancy by watching this free, interactive program, .

It was developed by a collaboration between AGA and Clinical Care Options, and is taught by experts Uma Mahadevan, MD, AGAF, UCSF School of Medicine, and Marla Dubinsky, MD, Icahn School of Medicine. By completing this program, you’ll learn how to address common misconceptions about risks associated with active IBD, and how timing conception during disease remission and optimizing disease control with pharmacology reduces risk and can ensure a healthy pregnancy. You can also earn up to 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 credit™.
