Sunraysia residents are invited to exercise their green thumbs this weekend by taking part in Council’s ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Tree Day event.
The Robbins Wetlands on Ontario Avenue is the focus of this year’s tree planting, which will get underway at 11am this Sunday 19 May.
Councillor for Environment and Farming Sustainability Anthony Cirillo encouraged residents to take part in the event, which will see 250 trees planted in the Robbins Wetland, which is part of the broader Mildura South Wetlands area.
“This is a great opportunity to get out and enjoy the outdoors in a community setting, meet new people and help beautify one of our newly developed residential areas,” Cr Cirillo said.
“By planting these trees we’ll establish habitat and provide amenity for residents and people passing through the area.
“We’ve been careful to choose native plants to vegetate the area, which will also increase biodiversity.”
People wishing to take part only need to wear appropriate clothing, including sturdy shoes and long pants – Council will take care of the rest, including gloves, tools, watering cans, buckets and drinking water.
The tree planting event will run through until midday when a BBQ lunch will be provided.
While ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Tree Day is in July, we’re getting in early this year to ensure our plantings are well established ahead of the warmer summer months.
