Tasmania has an extremely rich military history and the Tasmanian Government supports our students to better understand this history through the Frank MacDonald Memorial Prize.
The Frank MacDonald Memorial Prize also plays a key role in helping Tasmanian students learn more about the continuing remembrance and understanding of Australia’s involvement in World War I and World War II.
The 2021 Frank MacDonald Memorial Prize student showcase and presentation ceremony was held today in Hobart and the Essay Competition was open to students in both Years 9 and 10, and awarded to 12 students, six from each grade.
The Year 9 student winners are:
- Bridie Latimer, Devonport High School
- Chloe Brittain, St Mary’s College
- Joshua Dimsey, Clarence High School
- Katelyn Johnson, MacKillop Catholic College
- Noah Karakyriakos, Kingston High School
- Taleah Smith, Parklands High School
The Year 10 student winners are:
- Hollie James, Sacred Heart College
- Jenique Howard, Parklands High School
- Laura Winter, Launceston Church Grammar School
- Noah Gladdish, Kingston High School
- Rowan Wheeler, MacKillop Catholic College
- Zoe Rogers, MacKillop Catholic College
The two teachers who will accompany the 2022 Study Tour will be Caitlin Midson, from Devonport High School, and Jon Lewis from Parklands High School.
The RSL representative will be Christopher Parker from Lindisfarne RSL Sub-Branch, the Tasmanian Government tour leaders are Terese Smith and Tanya Brown and the Tasmanian Government representative will be the Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier, Madeleine Ogilvie.
In 2021, due to international travel restrictions, the Study Tour travelled to Albany and Perth in Western Australia and Darwin and Kakadu in the Northern Territory.
During the presentation ceremony, participants of the 2021 FMMP Study Tour shared their experiences, with a highlight being commemorating Anzac Day at the Cenotaph in Darwin.
