In October 2021 and early November 2022, Mornington Peninsula was affected by significant storms.
As we move into peak storm season, we want to make sure you’re prepared for the risks.
To help you feel empowered and safe, we’ve put together handy pointers to help you manage your own emergency risks during a storm.
How do I prepare for a storm?
Storms can occur anywhere and at any time. They often bring strong winds, flash flooding, large hailstones and lightning. They can cause major damage and put your life at risk.
Remember the following:
- Maintain your roof by cleaning gutters, spouting and downpipes regularly, fixing loose tiles, roofing iron and ridge capping.
- Trim or remove tree branches overhanging your home.
- Inspect and fix fences.
- Bring inside or tie down any loose items in your yard.
- Ensure everyone knows where, how and when to turn off the mains power, water and gas in case of emergency and evacuation.
- Talk to your neighbours, family and friends to see what their plans are and talk about how you can help each other.
In the event of a storm or flood emergency
