Heritage Perth receives award nomination

Heritage Perth has been nominated as one of 24 state-wide finalists across nine categories, named as part of this month’s WA Heritage Awards.

The Heritage Awards, now in their 27th year, recognise outstanding contributions to heritage conservation, adaptive reuse, promotion, tourism and interpretation.

Acting Chair Commissioner Gaye McMath said Heritage Perth’s ‘Heritage Perth Weekend’ program is one of two finalists in the Heritage Tourism Product category.

“The City is the principle funder of Heritage Perth and of Heritage Perth Weekend,” Acting Chair Commissioner McMath said.

“Each October people have the opportunity to be exposed to the heritage around us as part of the many walks, talks, presentations, workshops and open buildings – from UWA in Crawley to the WACA in East Perth.

“It’s an absolute credit to the Heritage Perth team and recognition of their dedication to be nominated for this award.”

Executive Director Leigh Barrett said the role of Heritage Perth is to present the heritage and history of the city in a positive way, demonstrating it as a valuable social, environmental and economic asset.

“The past is all around us, everywhere has a history and everywhere has a heritage.

“Even in relatively new cities such as Perth, we live our lives against a rich backdrop formed by historic buildings, landscapes and other physical survivals of our past.”

The WA Heritage Awards ceremony will be held on 29 March 2019.
