High Range Drink Driver Caught In Road Safety Operation

A 44 year old woman has been charged with high range drink driving after being detected in a road safety operation conducted in Hobart’s CBD on Sunday.

Southern Road Policing Unit conducted alcohol and drug testing between 7am and 10am on Sunday.

A 44 year old woman was detected driving on Davey Street at 7:50am and returned a breath alcohol reading of 0.166. She was arrested and later bailed to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court at a later date.

One provisional (P-plate) driver was driving with alcohol in their body (contrary to a zero alcohol condition) and three drivers returned positive illicit drug readings. All will be proceeded against by summons.

Tasmania Police reminds drivers they should consider how much alcohol they have consumed the previous night before getting behind the wheel in the morning,

“Driving with alcohol or drugs in your body increases your risk of being involved in a serious crash,” Sergeant Andrew Sulman said.

“We will continue to proactively patrol our roads to ensure everyone is doing the right thing.

“Road safety is a community responsibility.”
