High Range drink driver detected on West Coast

A 57-year-old Tullah man has been charged with high range drink driving after being detected nearly 4x the legal limit.

At 7:30 pm yesterday police intercepted a green Ford Festiva on the Murchison Highway near Rosebery after it was observed swerving across the road.

This man returned a high range drink driving reading of 0.19%. He was immediately disqualified from driving and will face court in relation to exceeding the prescribed alcohol limit, driving under the influence of alcohol and consuming alcohol whilst driving.

“This behaviour is not only unacceptable but could have easily resulted in another death on our roads. It is even more disappointing that such a high drink driving reading was detected given the significant road safety campaigns over the Easter period” said Sergeant James Scicluna.

“Police on the West Coast are committed to making the roads safer and traffic enforcement will continue to be a key focus. Driving whilst affected by alcohol or drugs places every road user at risk and will not be tolerated.”

Any information pertaining to unsafe driving practices can be provided to police on 131 444 or through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or at . Information can be provided anonymously.
