A man had his license supended and also charged after allegedly drink driving at Rubyanna on Friday night.
The 41-year-old was driving along Bargara Road with a number of passengers, including children, when he overtook an unmarked police car.
The officer took evasive action, allowing the man to return to the correct side to the road safely and avoid a head-on collision with another car.
The Bargara man returned a roadside breath test reading of 0.25. He was transported to a police station where he returned a blood alcohol concentration of 0.195%.
Senior Constable Annette Pfingst of Bundaberg Highway Patrol said this was a matter of police being in the right place at the right time.
“It is hard to comprehend how this man thought it was a good idea to get behind the wheel of a car in this state,” she said.
“It is also hard to believe his passengers also allowed him to.
“These decisions placed himself, his passengers and other road users at significant risk. The outcome could have been significantly worse,” Senior Constable Pfingst said.
So far this year, 32 lives have been lost on roads across the Wide Bay region.
Across the state, 243 lives have been lost. This in an increase of 13 compared to the same time last year.
Road safety continues to be everyone’s reposnibility – it starts with you.
The man was charged with driving under the influence of liquor and is scheduled to appear in Bundaberg Magistrates Court on November 18.
