A large scale artwork created by students from Highfields State School titled ‘We Love Australia and Japan’ will journey to Toowoomba Region’s Japanese Sister City to display in November at the annual Takatsuki Art Festival.
Toowoomba Region Mayor Paul Antonio said that our sister city each year invites a local school to participate in the annual exhibition and in 2019, Highfields State School will be our region’s representative.
“The Highfields students’ work will feature in the ‘Large Scale Artwork Exhibition’ that sees canvases hung from the ceiling of a local Takatsuki shopping mall and various other locations across the city,” Mayor Antonio said.
“The student’s artwork was inspired by the school’s recent visit to Takatsuki where representatives met with the Mayor and visited a local school.
“The aim of the Takatsuki Art Festival’s is to stimulate the community’s activities and to discover and nurture local young talent.
“Last year, for the 75th Anniversary of Takatsuki being a municipality, Toowoomba Anglican School and Toowoomba Photographic Society Junior Class were invited to participate in the exhibition.
“Takatsuki is similar to Toowoomba Region in that we are a vibrant and welcoming region built on rich traditions matched by bold ambitions for a prosperous future.
“Takatsuki, like Toowoomba is evolving and becoming more widely recognised as an ‘art city’ with both our cities hosting many arts and cultural activities.
“It is an honour for our young students to be invited to be involved.
“The theme for this year’s Takatsuki Art Festival is ‘We love___’ and the students have created this work with their love of Australia and Japan in their thoughts.
“With their young imaginative minds and artistic talent, I am sure these works of art from our local students will create a lasting impression of Toowoomba Region to the people of Takatsuki.”
