Detectives from the Special Crime Squad have charged a 46-year-old man, in relation to a historic attempted aggravated armed robbery and deprivation of liberty incident that occurred at a home in Rockingham on 19 June 2011.
About 9pm, the victim – a female who was in her 50s at the time – was at home when it will be alleged the man – dressed in a balaclava – forced entry into the home.
It will be further alleged the man – who was armed with a machete – threatened the woman, before assaulting her and leaving the home.
The man is not known to the woman and the investigation at the time failed to identify a suspect.
Almost 12 years later, detectives from the Special Crime Squad recently re-examined an item of interest with new forensic technology, which showed a positive match for the 46-year-old man.
The 46-year-old man was subsequently taken into custody on Monday 18 December 2023 and has since been charged with:
• Aggravated Burglary and Commit on a Dwelling
• Attempted Aggravated Armed Robbery
• Deprivation of Liberty
• Criminal Damage
He is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on Tuesday 19 December 2023.
