History to stay alive at historic Jondaryan Woolshed

Community Update

The immediate future of the historic Jondaryan Woolshed is secure with Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) agreeing to continue the current direct management arrangement of the facility for a further three years.

At today’s Ordinary Meeting of Council, TRC resolved that Council’s current direct management model of the historic Jondaryan Woolshed would continue until November 2026.

TRC Environment and Community Portfolio Chair Cr James O’Shea said Council had been looking at various operating models for the Woolshed but ultimately settled on continuing with Council’s direct management model on an interim basis.

“Council has been through an extensive process of looking at various operating models for the future of the Jondaryan Woolshed.

“At today’s Ordinary Meeting, Council resolved to continue to fund the current direct management arrangement on an interim basis for a further three years which is a great outcome for the community.

“This three-year extension of Council’s current operating model gives immediate certainty to the Woolshed’s future while Council considers other longer-term management options.

“Right now, Jondaryan Woolshed offers wedding and private event bookings, camping, large-scale community events such as the recent Working Dog Spectacular and Australia Day and is open to bookings for schools and other tour groups to visit.

“The facility is very much open and I want to thank and acknowledge Council’s on-site staff who work in partnership with the Friends of Jondaryan Woolshed and other volunteers to ensure the historic facility is available to visitors,” Cr O’Shea said.

With the operating model now secure for another three years, Cr O’Shea said Council would turn its attention to marketing the facility to visitors as much as possible.

“The old catch-cry ‘Where history comes alive’ is still very much relevant to the Jondaryan Woolshed and Council will now focus efforts on maximising visitation and use of the facility to ensure its sustainable future,” Cr O’Shea said.
