TOMORROW Friday March 15, hit105 Breakfast Announcer, Abby Coleman, will have her famous long blonde locks cut off by a 10-year old girl called Bridget as part of the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave (for every $10,000 raised, Abby will be cutting off 10 cm of hair and if $50,000 is raised, she will be cutting off ALL her hair)! And, with over $35,000 already raised, it’s happening!

ABOUT THE SHAVE – Hit105’s Abby Coleman has never, ever had short hair. She’s never even had a bob-cut. Not even thought about it, in fact, she has anxiety about having a trim. But all that is about to change all because of a little girl from Boonah.
“I love my hair! I’ll modestly say I’ve never had a bad hair day, so shaving my head is a huge, huge deal for me. BUT my hair will grow back, lives can’t be replaced and that’s why I’m up for it. That, and because of a very special little girl I met six years ago called Bridget. I met Bridget during the then B105 Christmas Appeal, when she was battling an aggressive form of leukaemia. Her fight and the brave face her parents had to put on throughout it hit home for me. Bridget fought the cancer, but devastatingly a few years later the cancer returned. I visited Bridget at the Leukemia Foundation’s apartments where her family was staying (she’s from Boonah, about an hour west of Brisbane) while she was undergoing treatment and it wasn’t hard to see the financial strain the family was facing. I got into the lift in tears after promising Bridget I would fight with and for her, and that one day I would pay it back and shave my head to raise as much money as possible. That day has come.”
“Whilst I’m happy to say that Bridget is now a beautiful 10-year-old, there are so many families that are going through the pain she and her family did and I want to raise as much money as possible to help them receive the same great support Bridget’s family received from the Leukemia Foundation.”
ABOUT THE WORLD’S GREAT SHAVE
WHAT: The Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave began 21 years go in Lismore NSW and was inspired by a daughter’s love for her father who was battling leukemia. Today, the event is one of Australia’s biggest fundraising events.
WHY: Blood cancer is the third most common cause of cancer death in Australia, claiming more lives than breast cancer or melanoma. Funds raised will help fund ground-breaking research and support local families affected by blood cancer through advocating for equal access to new therapies and treatments as well as providing educational, emotional and practical support such as transport and accommodation. All support and services are provided free of charge.
WHO: More than 20,000 extraordinary Aussies of all ages will get involved this year.
