The Hobart Airport Marathon Festival is back and once again attracting visitors to our State.
The Rockliff Liberal Government is supporting Sunday’s event with $130,000 over three years through the Events Tasmania Event Attractions Fund.
The inaugural event attracted more than 1450 participants across the five distances, with nearly 300 of those from interstate.
Competitors can choose between the full marathon (42.2km), the half marathon (21.1km), 10km and 5km events and the mini 2km marathon.
Minister for Hospitality and Events, Nic Street, said the full and half-marathon races start at dawn on Sunday from Princes Wharf No1, which will be the main precinct and expo village.
“The picturesque course winds from Hobart’s iconic waterfront around the Domain, back through historic Battery Point and to Sandy Bay, Nutgrove Beach and then back to PW1,” he said.
“Participants will travel to Tasmania to enjoy the picturesque course and then stay on to enjoy some post- race recovery time, taking the opportunity to savour our excellent Tasmanian wine and produce, or a more active recovery with mountains, rivers, beaches and bike tracks all close by.
“The Government continues to support the attraction of large-scale events to the State and build our reputation as a destination of choice for mass participation based events, because we know that these events deliver interstate visitors and strong economic benefits to Tasmania.”
