Tasmania continues to cement its reputation as one of the world’s leading Antarctic and Southern Oceans gateways with the premier meeting of Antarctic nations returning to Hobart for the fourth International Sub-Antarctic Forum in July 2020.
Tasmania has a unique competitive advantage due to our proximity to the Antarctic, and the Government is committed to growing the value the sector has on our economy.
The 2020 forum will sit alongside the biennial Australian Antarctic Festival, which attracts more than 21,000 visitors to Hobart from around the world.
One of the biggest gatherings of its kind, the 4th International Sub-Antarctic Forum will bring together more than 120 experts from Antarctic nations including Australia, New Zealand, France, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Chile, Argentina and Norway.
It will see land managers, policy makers, commercial operators and NGOs, as well as sub-Antarctic scientists, come together in one place to focus on the challenges facing the sub-Antarctic, to develop stronger partnerships and to share ideas for the future.
