³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ and Business Battery Scheme Vouchers Hitting Territory Businesses

NT Government

More than 300 Territorians have applied for the Territory Labor Governments ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ and Business Battery Scheme (HBBS), with over 230 vouchers hitting local businesses.

Spread out right across the Territory the estimated economic impact value of works from the HBBS is over $7 million.

The first round of grants has enabled more Territorians to make the switch to renewables while also delivering stable, reliable and affordable power for families and Territory businesses.

The ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ and Business Battery Scheme has provided Territory homeowners and businesses with $6000 grants to either;

  • Buy and install a solar photovoltaic (PV) system with an eligible battery or inverter, or
  • Buy and install an eligible battery and inverter, to complement an existing solar PV system.

Installing a battery means that rather than exporting electricity into the grid, the household or business is able to store the electricity for future use, a major cost saving measure.

Household and business batteries contribute to grid stability and reduce power system costs by replacing demand for gas fired generation during evening peaks with solar energy generated during the day.

Certain battery setups can also build resilience for families and businesses by enabling them to maintain supply during network outages.

The ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ and Business Battery Scheme has energised the Territory’s battery installation industry, providing valuable experience for installers and building understanding of local markets, supply chains and technical requirements.

As noted by Minister for Renewables and Energy, Eva Lawler:

“We want Territorians to have access to the latest and best technology as we build a stronger and more resilient power system for Territory households and businesses.

“The HBBS $6000 solar and battery vouchers will see even more Territorians choose the sun and lower power prices – and create more jobs.

“Local businesses, and local families are benefiting from this scheme – whether it’s receiving the work now to install the PV and Battery system, or whether it’s a cost saving measure in the future – this is a win-win for the Territory.”
