³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s for Queenslanders: Deal locks in hundreds of affordable homes in growth suburbs

JOINT STATEMENT
  • Miles Government secures 483 affordable homes with support from its Housing Investment Fund
  • The homes will be delivered by Tetris Capital, in partnership with Metricon, ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Affordable Housing, KDL Property Group and ANZ
  • Part of Miles Government’s ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s for Queenslanders plan to deliver one million more homes

Close to 500 affordable homes will be built in key growth areas as the Miles Government rolls out its ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s for Queenslanders plan.

The affordable homes will include 257 three-bedroom homes, 85 two-bedroom homes and 141 one-bedroom homes for individuals, couple and young families.

³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s will be built across four growth suburbs – Burpengary East, Jimboomba, Logan Reserve and Joyner – where approximately 85 per cent of residents earn low and moderate incomes.

The majority of the homes will be dual-key designs made possible by government changes to planning regulations for secondary dwellings.

It’s being delivered, operated and financed by a partnership made up of Tetris Capital, Metricon, KDL Property Group, ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Affordable Housing (NAH) and ANZ.

It comes after the Miles Government and Tetris Capital just the other week turned the sod on the state’s largest social and affordable housing project in Cairns.

Construction of the 483 homes will be completed in stages, commencing from October 2024.

First tenants are expected to be welcomed from mid-2025 with the final home anticipated to be complete by mid-2027.

As stated by Deputy Premier and Treasurer Cameron Dick:

“The Miles Labor Government is doing what matters for Queenslanders by providing more safe and secure homes.

“Queenslanders, like people all other States, are facing housing stress as result of a rapidly growing population, a change in the number of people who live in each home and supply constraints around construction.

“During these challenges it is the people who can least afford homes that need the most help, which is why these 483 affordable homes are so important.

“Of these new homes, 349 are going to be built in the Moreton Bay Region and 134 in Logan.

“It’s another example of the Housing Investment Fund helping Queenslanders, which has already provided homes for about 1000 people.”

As stated by Housing Minister Meaghan Scanlon:

“Whether it’s building or buying, our Housing Investment Fund is attracting major projects right across the state and delivering for Queenslanders.

“The fund has meant thousands of additional homes being built and coming online that otherwise wouldn’t have been possible.

“These homes will give young families, couples and individuals an affordable place to call home.

“And it’s all on top of our social housing Big Build and efforts to unlock more homes, faster.”

As stated by Member for Logan Linus Power:

“The Miles Labor Government has been really focussed on delivering more affordable housing for the people of Logan and these new homes will make a real difference.

“Logan has one of the lowest rental vacancy rates in Queensland and is also one of the fastest growing regions in the state, which is why it is vital we continue to increase housing supply.

“These new homes will not only provide safe and secure housing they will also take the pressure off the rental market, making renting a home in Logan more affordable.”

As stated by Member for Bancroft Chris Whiting:

“Our community is one of the fastest-growing in the Moreton Bay region which is why it is essential that there continues to be a supply of affordable housing.

“These new homes at Burpengary will provide some much needed housing and a safe a secure home for families, couples and singles.”

As stated by Tetris Capital Principal Ryan Slocombe:

“Tetris is proud to establish and be a part of the consortium, Everyone’s Place, as we collectively seek to create vibrant spaces where everyone feels at home.

“With our partners we are excited about this innovative approach to delivering housing for Queenslanders in a fast, efficient manner.”

As stated by Metricon CEO Brad Duggan:

“Through our dedicated division EveryOne ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s, we are proud to be designing and constructing these 483 affordable homes in Queensland.

“Set to begin construction in October 2024, with completion expected in approximately 2.5 years, this project will create over 100 new jobs at Metricon and throughout our supply chain.

“The development will feature a diverse range of housing options to meet the urgent demand for affordable living in growing Queensland suburbs.

“This initiative not only bolsters local employment but also plays a crucial role in advancing Queensland’s housing goals through sustainable and impactful growth.”

As stated by KDL Property Group Managing Director Kent Leicester:

“KDL Property Group is delighted to be part of Everyone’s Place, supported by the Queensland Government’s $2 billion Housing Investment Fund.

“We welcome support from the HIF across these residential housing projects in the Moreton Bay and Logan regions.

“KDL is excited to be working with the Queensland Government to deliver much needed affordable housing.

“KDL is highly active in the state’s southeast and is on track to deliver more than 1,100 new home sites in the Greater Brisbane area in the next three years.”
