³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s for Queenslanders: New modular homes for Thallon seniors

  • New modular homes to provide safe and secure housing for seniors in Thallon
  • The modular homes are among the 53,500 social homes being delivered as part of Miles Government’s ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s for Queenslanders plan

The Miles Government is partnering with Thallon Community Services (TCS) to deliver two new two-bedroom modular homes.

It’s part of the Miles Government’s ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s for Queenslanders plan, which includes delivering 53,500 more social homes.

The project has been specifically designed to meet the needs of seniors living in Thallon, including those who have challenges with mobility.

The houses will be built by Oly Housing in their Toowoomba factory and trucked to site.

Just this month, the Miles Government announced it would deliver 600 more modular homes across the state through its public builder QBuild and Queensland businesses.

Built in a factory, they’re not hampered by weather and can be set-up in three months compared to a year for many traditional builds.

They’ll be installed to provide homes for elderly community members, help meet social housing demand and provide homes for essential workers, like teachers, nurses and police.

As stated by Housing Minister Meaghan Scanlon:

“These homes will assist older Thallon residents, who will be able to enjoy a more accessible home surrounded by a familiar community.

“To build more homes, faster we’re utilising our public builder QBuild and Queensland businesses to deliver hundreds more modular homes.

“It’s a stark contrast to the LNP who do not support building modular homes, and who cut 1,600 QBuild workers, the people responsible for building, maintaining and upgrading homes.”

As stated by Thallon Community Services chair Bill Willis:

“We are very excited to develop new social housing in our community. Thallon, a dynamic small town in SW QLD, was recently voted the 2023 Grey Nomads Friendliest Town in Australia.

“Our older residents and others with specific requirements wish to stay connected to family and friends however they require housing suited to their requirements to remain in the community.

“One of our aims is to provide new housing and in particular ageing-in-place housing for Thallon to improve Thallon services and facilities for the benefit of the Thallon community.

“This is a game changer for us, and we appreciate the Queensland Government’s financial contribution and guidance in this project.”

As stated by Oly ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s owner Dale Funston:

“Oly ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s is pleased to collaborate with the Queensland Government to expedite housing availability in south-west Queensland.

“The Modern Methods of Construction initiative enables Oly ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s to deliver high-quality housing swiftly.

“We are delighted to participate in this project, offering homes for Thallon’s senior citizens and community members with mobility challenges.”
