More than $500,000 is being made available for Government schools, preschools, and music and creative industries and organisations to invest in innovative practices and programs that will increase access to quality music education across South Australia.
The Music Innovation Fund, a Marshall Liberal Government initiative that forms part of the newly launched Music Education Strategy, aims to create more opportunities for children and young people to participate in music education.
The first round of funding is now open, with round 2 opening later this year and round 3 in early 2020.
Applicants are encouraged to consider how they can tap into local expertise and music education services within their communities.
Education Minister John Gardner said the fund will support the Government’s broader Music Education Strategy, which aims to expand the range and strengthen the quality of music education available to children and young people across South Australia.
“It is important that our children and young people have access to high quality music education and the educational benefits it brings them,” said Minister Gardner.
“We want our students to have access to the best education system in the nation, and investment in excellent music education is critical to this endeavour.
“The Music Innovation Fund is a great opportunity for schools to explore educational opportunities that will engage children in music from an early age.
“Applicants should also look at how they could develop partnerships by tapping into local expertise and music education services within their communities.
“We know that there are great music programs and initiatives out there, and we are encouraging groups to come forward and apply.”
