Honouring Sacrifice And Service On Remembrance Day

Each year on November 11, we pause to remember Australians who served in our armed services, particularly those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Remembrance Day is a time to reflect on that sacrifice and the enduring impact of war on communities across the world.

A special anniversary year

While World War I is the central focus of Remembrance Day, the date also commemorates the service of veterans from all conflicts. The major milestone anniversaries in 2024 are:

  • 110 years since the start of World War I
  • 80 years since the D-Day invasions in Europe
  • 50 years since Australia withdrew our troops from Vietnam
  • 25 years since Australia sent troops to East Timor.
